But we promised you answers to your questions in this article, so let’s get to it.

Good land clearing contractors vs bad land clearing contractors

Let’s start off with an ugly truth: depending upon the state you are in, obtaining a land clearing contractor license may, or may not, involved special training.  There are many, many companies out there who bid for land clearing jobs but are not specially trained for them.  As hard as it may be to believe, there are many companies out there who simply have a business license which declares them to be land clearing contractors, but in fact they have never done a land clearing job.

With that in mind, how can you feel safe in hiring one?  We believe there are a couple things you can do to ease your concerns:

  • Check out the equipment used
  • Ask for references
  • Check with the Better Business Bureau
  • Ask the companies about special training
  • Ask them about liability insurance

Let’s look at each of these in a little more depth.

Proper equipment

Land clearing almost always involves mowing, brush hogging services, small tree removal, etc.  Those types of activities require special equipment, and that special equipment is expensive.  Qualified and experienced land clearing companies will have that equipment. They will have made the financial commitment to purchase said machinery.

References

This is just our opinion, but if you are going to pay premium dollars for land clearing, you should pay for experience. Ask the various companies for references of previous land clearing jobs, and then follow up and call those references.

Better Business Bureau

Bad companies eventually are noticed by the Better Business Bureau.  Poor work is noticed, and word spreads throughout a community.

Special training

Ask to see their license.  They should have some sort of licensing which says they are trained in lot clearing.  If they don’t, keep searching.

Insurance

Keith’s Tractor Mowing carries $1,000,000 general liability insurance for every job we do. Why? Because heavy machinery means the possibility of damage to property, and we want our customers to rest assured that they are protected when we do a job.

Do your due diligence and make sure you hire a trained, experienced, reputable land clearing company.
