The problem with mowing overgrown grass
Anyone who has tried mowing overgrown grass is fully aware of the problem: residential mowers, also known as finished mowers, do not have a strong enough blade, or a sharp enough blade, to cut the tall grass properly. Inevitably, after taking one pass across a lawn or field, a large proportion of the tall grass will remain standing, necessitating another pass over it in the opposite direction. This, in essence, doubles or triples the cutting tall grass time.
The other problem with mowing overgrown grass is that hidden objects are often buried in that grass, objects which can either dull a conventional blade, break a conventional blade, or become airborne when struck by a conventional blade.
And the third problem is that quite often weeds and/or brush will have grown up inside of that overgrown grass, brush which requires heavier blades to cut.

What is a brush hog?
A brush hog is usually a large cutting attachment which is towed behind a tractor. It is, in essence, a lawn mower, but a much larger mower with much sharper blades which revolve at a much higher speed. They are capable of, not only cutting tall grass, but also shrubs, brush, and other tough vegetation. Scotch broom, berry bushes, and the like are no match for a brush hog.
Having said all that, if you do not have a tractor, you will be unable to use a brush hog, meaning you will have to hire commercial tractor mowing services from some commercial grass cutting company, of which there are many to choose from.
The cost of brush hogging services
Brush hogging services will cost you, industry standard, approximately $75 per hour. Maybe a little more, maybe a little less, depending upon the area you live. If the company must drive a long way to your property, the cost could be a bit higher.
How to find a good brush hogging service
Ask around! Commercial grass and vegetation cutters are well-known by farmers and large property owners. A farming grange will have recommendations for you, as will a feed store or tractor supply store. The reputable companies are well-known among farmers, as are the less-than-reputable ones. A few phone calls will net you a couple names you can trust to do a quick and efficient job on lot mowing you need done.
