What is a land clearing business?
Land clearing involves removing unwanted brush, trees, and other obstacles so that some sort of construction or landscaping can occur on that cleared space. That description sounds simple enough, but in truth, land clearing requires the trained skills of skilled land clearing contractors who have been trained for that type of specific skill.
We are Keith’s Tractor Mowing, serving the Greater Fort Worth area. Call us for more information about acreage mowing within 75 miles of Fort Worth. Now, though, let’s talk a bit more about land clearing and specifically about land clearing services.
Removal of unwanted brush
Brush removal is usually done with a piece of equipment called a brush hog, followed by the use of a backhoe. A brush hog is a tractor attachment which has extremely sharp blades, made from the toughest steel available, and blades which revolve at an extremely high rate of speed. This allows those blades to cut through thick vines and the trunks of small vegetation. It is relatively dangerous work and requires the skill of a trained professional, especially when the land is uneven. This is the main reason why companies like our own Keith’s Tractor Mowing carry $1,000,000 general liability insurance, to make sure all parties are protected during the use of heavy equipment in dangerous situations.
Removal of trees
Small trees are usually removed simply by bulling them over with a tractor or backhoe, and then pulling the trunks out of the ground. Large trees must be limbed first, then cut into sections using chainsaws, and then the trunk is pulled out of the ground by a tractor. Amateurs and the untrained can do this work, but it is not advised. Dangerous work requires the skills of trained professionals. We cannot overemphasize that point enough for you do-it-yourselfers out there contemplating doing the job and not paying a pro.
Removal of large rocks and boulders
Large rocks and boulders are removed by a backhoe and hauled away in large dump trucks. In fact, there are some boulders too large for even a backhoe to handle, in which case those boulders are blown apart into smaller boulders using dynamite. Anyone trained to drive a backhoe can do this work; the dynamite part of the discussion should never be done by amateurs.
Leave it to, and pay, the pros
Land clearing can be done by amateurs. We are in no way saying differently. We are, however, saying that land clearing is a dangerous job, and it is always best to leave dangerous work to trained professionals. Yes, it can be costly to do so, but compared to a long stay in a hospital, followed by months of physical therapy, the cost is reasonable.
